Restricted to the arid zones of south-western Africa, the springbok occurs in Namibia, south-western Angola, Botswana and South Africa (Wilson & Reeder, 1993). Its distribution map was obtained from Skinner & Smithers (1990), but was subsequently updated following Dr. R East’s suggestions (23 June '97), including all of South Africa, where the species has been largely introduced and reintroduced. Categorical-discrete (CD) distribution model The species is typically found in open, dry savanna and grasslands in the Kalahari and Karoo biomes (East, 1989; Lynch, 1983; Wilson, 1989; Kingdon, 1997).
