Description:
Densely tufted perennial grass, up to 1.3 m. Infl. digitate, mostly 2-4 racemes
(sometimes more), up to 25 cm. Spikelets 4-7.5 mm, sometimes showing purple
stripes.
Habitat:
In clearings in savanna woodland and vlei margins, favouring acidic and stony
soils.
Distribution:
From Southern Africa up to Tanzania in the high lying regions.
Uses:
Unpalatable grass wich offers little grazing. Grazed apon only in young stage,
as it matures the leaves become hard.
