Description:
Also known as oldman's beard or Large silver grass. Resembles A. eucomus, but stouter, with longer spikelets
bearing white silky hairs only slightly longer than themselves. Reed-like perennial tufted grass, up to 2 m. Infls
subdigitate, somewhat plumose. The so-called pedicelled spikelets are reduced to a sterile glume. Flowers from Sep - Jun
Habitat:
Grows in damp soil, In vleis, seepage areas, wet roadsides and along river banks.
Distribution:
Zambia southwards to South Africa and Swaziland
Uses:
It is a good indicator of wet sandy soil.
