Description:
Densely tufted perennial, usually c 60 cm high. Leaves mostly at base of stem,
hairless, with sharply keeled yellowish sheaths, blades often inrolled. Racemes
several, up to 15 cm long, usually much less, spikelets almost hairless, deep
purple.
Habitat:
Grows in damp and shady areas. Water dependant.
Distribution:
Only found in Southern Africa
Uses:
Palatable grass with a high production and well utelised by grazers. Resistant
to over grazing.
